SEPTEMBER 15, 2004 - A 12-year-old Mesquite, Texas, girl missing for eleven days was found safe in an Oklahoma City motel.

Police found Jami Hicks at the motel in northeast Oklahoma City was checked out at a local hospital. Her stepfather, James Hudachek, was hospitalized immediately after the rescue of the girl with what Oklahoma City police say is an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Police say they heard a gunshot as they approached the motel room and the girl then came out of the room. Hudachek was found inside. A Mesquite police spokeswoman says Hudachek was listed in critical condition in the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City shortly after the incident.

Mesquite police say they were contacted by the girl's mother, Angela Hudachek. She says James Hudachek called her, told her where he and her daughter were and to come pick her up.
