Local Amber Plan Altered; Web Site Unveiled (10/30/2003)

ARLINGTON, TX --  The Dallas/Fort Worth Amber Task Force announces a revision in the age criteria for activating the Amber Alert, and the launching of a new website that will be updated with any future Amber Alerts impacting North Texas.

With the Texas State-wide Amber Plan using a criteria of age 17 or younger, the D/FW Amber Plan is changing the age criteria for local alerts from 15 to 17.  With the majority of Amber Plans in Texas and around the country establishing 17 as the benchmark age, local organizers of the Amber Plan felt that the plan here should be consistent with other Amber Plans.

The new website is www.dfwamberalert.com and is available for immediate use. Newsroom staff personnel from WBAP-AM and KRLD-AM will update the site with D/FW area Amber Alerts issued by police officials.

In addition to current Amber Alerts, the site has other information including police and radio station procedures, a history of the Amber Alert program and links to other child-safety and missing children sites.

The D/FW Amber Plan Task Force was created by the Association of Radio Managers, a coalition of radio stations that created the nation’s first Amber Plan, after the abduction and death of Amber Hagerman of Arlington, Texas.
